We currently employ nearly 400 people and manage around 14,500 council owned properties across the city. Our Housing Operations are managed at specific locations enabling us to provide a responsive and local service to our customers.
These local area offices are based at:
Through Salford City Council, we have provision for the management of anti social behaviour, furnished tenancies & supported accommodation and a mobile warden service, meeting the needs of our elderly tenants.
Our future business plans
To secure the maximum possible funding to improve the quality and standards of these homes, the council has undertaken a city-wide consultation exercise with tenants to determine the best way to manage these properties in the future.
A regeneration ALMO called Salix Homes was created on 1st July 2007. Salix Homes manages approximately 10,000 properties on behalf of the council, in central Salford.
In west Salford, tenants voted in a ballot to transfer their homes to City West Housing Trust, a Registered Social Landlord, which will provide significant funding for the improvement of homes in the west of the City. This new company will launch during 2008.
New Prospect and Salford City Council are working jointly together on managing this change. The implications for employment security and career opportunities are very positive. The council have provided job guarantees for all (including future employees of New Prospect with permanent contracts).
An Excellent Working Environment
We’re really proud of our friendly and approachable management structure. Our management team visit the area offices and attend team meetings to make sure they are visible and accessible.
We actively encourage and welcome staff involvement, with regular workshops whenever change is ahead and we also have a staff suggestion scheme where one of our employees received £800 after their idea helped us save £8,000! It’s initiatives like this that contribute to our low staff turnover – one person has just retired after 43 years with us and in 2006/7 we’ve awarded 6 employees for reaching 25 years service!
We believe in investing in local talent and have a Building Crafts Apprenticeship Scheme, which is available to people aged 16–20, who live in the City of Salford. recruiting 5 apprentices each year. We work in partnership with Skills Solutions on this local initiative. Email: Stephen waterhouse for further information about apprentice recruitment or contact the Human Resources Team
Great Working Conditions
We pride ourselves on the excellent Terms & Conditions we provide, particularly our final salary pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlement and flexible working hours for the majority of our employees.
If you join New Prospect from a Local Authority or similar organisations we may be able to offer ‘Continuous Service’ for annual leave, sickness benefits and other contractual employment rights.
Supporting Our Employees
When a member of our team needs our support – we’re always pleased to be able to help.
We invest heavily in staff development and have a good quality portfolio of learning and development opportunities for all our staff. Working in partnership with internal and external providers, employees are provided with a range of development opportunities to assist them in their role and career progression, from short ½ day courses to extended management development.
We understand the importance of work/life balance and make Flexitime available to most employees. All you have to do is work an average of 36 hours per week over a 4 week cycle (to a work pattern agreed by your line manager) with up to 2 days credit leave per month (subject to extra work being available of course). We also have a number of Family Friendly policies such as job share, carers leave etc.
Our BusyBees Childcare vouchers offer fantastic savings to working parents - one of our employees saves £70 every month due to this initiative.
Equality & Diversity
We are committed to attracting and developing a representative and diverse workforce. With this in mind we are currently forming development programmes for under represented groups who wish to progress within our organisation.
Fund Raising
We actively support local charities, nominated annually by employees and make sure we have a lot of fun in the process of raising the much-needed pounds. The Phoenix (our subsidised social club) is also flaming good fun. It’s a great venue for parties and get-togethers and enables us to ensure there’s just the right balance between work and fun.
